about stretching

Posted by: bingz on: February 26, 2009

I’ve got a love-hate relationship with stretching, physically. When I’m about to stretch beyond my comfort zone, i.e., really stretch till I get an increasing achy feeling, I can choose to resist against it, or embrace it and ease into that achy feeling. If I choose to resist against it, I find myself tensing all my other muscles to prevent stretching of this particular muscle group, and I end up aching more. In fact, it’s not the actual ache itself, but the anticipation of the increasing ache that just makes me want to tense my muscles. But if I catch myself building tension, then proceed to relax those muscles, and instead go on to EMBRACE the ‘achy’ feeling, I end up having a great relaxing stretch, and the sense of satisfaction is fantastic!

Isn’t it amazing that a change of perspective can do so much good to your body, easing away tension and building long, lean muscles?

that sometimes we are our own greatest obstacle to progress?

that sometimes the obstacle we fear isn’t even real yet?

that total surrender and easing into the flow is sometimes the best way to emerge triumphant from it all?

just a thought I’d like to share. Any views/comments? (=
